I did not know this until I had to construct this diagram of different fruit tissue textures found in carbonized archeological remains of the same species under different processing practices.

These figures accompanied an article authored by Valentina Saur Palmieri and published in Vegetation History and Archaeobotany.

Sarcomphalus mistol is a native edible species from Argentina. Based on remains found in an archeological site, they developed a dichotomous key to identify past practices involving these fruits, enabling a better understanding of the ancient relationships between wild plants and humans.
